Mulled wine is the perfect feature for your holiday party or even just a cozy night at home. It blends the warm comfort of spices with the fruity profile of a good red wine. It’s especially comforting on a cold night and it fills your home with such an amazing fragrance.
- 1 bottle Burklee Hill Vineyards GSM (or your favorite red wine)
- 1 cup brandy
- 1/2 cup pomegranate juice
- 1/2 cup cranberry juice
- 2 large oranges sliced
- 1/2 cup cranberries
- 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
- 4 cinnamon sticks
- 1 tsp. cloves
- 4 whole star anise
I chose the Burklee Hill GSM, a blend of Granache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre, because it’s the perfect balance of fruit and earth notes. This GSM reminds me of jam in the best way. It’s rich, fruity and has a hint of spice that makes it a nice choice for mulled wine. You can also choose a Cabernet Sauvignon, Tempranillo or Montepulciano. Instead of the spices, you can also incorporate 3 tablespoons of pre-made mulling spices. I still love throwing in a few cinnamon sticks and star anise are simply so pretty for garnishing as well.
- Combine all ingredients in large pot or crockpot
- Simmer on low for 1 hour or longer, stir occasionally
Garnish with more cranberries and pomegranate seeds and serve this cozy holiday sipper!
Cheers – E
